University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne

Sorbonne, first endowed college in the University of Paris, founded by Robert de Sorbon (1201–1274), chaplain of Louis IX, and opened in 1253 for the purpose of providing quarters for theology students who were not friars. Today, the university enrolls about 24,000 students in 20 departments specializing in arts, humanities and languages.
