How did your passion for The Little Prince and its author come about?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

My passion for\u00a0<\/span>The Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0was born at the age of 14, when, as a boarder at a school in the mountains, a teacher gave me this book. It was love at first sight. I was fascinated as much by the text as by its spiritual and philosophical dimension, and the book quickly became a life companion. I gave it as a gift to people around me, to my parents and my friends, because I was so keen to share what I had found in it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Later, I took a break from my engineering studies to travel around the world. In Tokyo, in the window of a bookshop, I came across\u00a0<\/span>The Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0of my adolescence translated into Japanese. Something clicked, and I bought this edition, then started looking for other translations throughout my trip. I came back with five or six versions. That's how the collection was born, and by 1985 there were already around a hundred copies. Life took its course, with three children and the resumption of the family business. The passion remained, sometimes in the background, but always present. Every time I travelled, I kept looking for new translations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The real turning point came with the Internet, where I discovered other collectors around the world, new languages and a much wider universe than I had imagined. My collection grew considerably. Around twenty years ago, I met Olivier d'Agay, President of the Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry Foundation and the author's grand-nephew. This meeting gave me a new impetus, and over the next fifteen years I devoted even more energy and resources to expanding this heritage, adding thousands of books, documents and unique objects relating to the author.\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0and its creator.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Why did you go on to create a foundation around your collection?\n<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I first set up the foundation to provide a lasting framework for my collection, to ensure its continuity. I didn't want all this heritage to be dispersed one day. I also wanted the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>universal messages from\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0continue to live on and to be disseminated. Thanks to the foundation, I have organised meetings and symposiums, but above all I have played an active role in extending the translations of the\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

I was soon asked to support translations into local languages or even dialects, such as Rapanui (Easter Island), which kept me busy for nearly three years, Dzongkha (Bhutan), Mapuche (Chile), Shipibo-Konibo (Amazonia) and Kirundi (Burundi). The foundation finances the entire process, from paying the translators to proof-reading and page layout, with the help of its own staff.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>original drawings, printed on site and distributed free of charge. Depending on the project, we offer between 2,000 and 6,000 books, in partnership with local networks, to ensure that the books actually reach the teenagers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

What's most important to me is that young people all over the world are able to discover the values of the\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0Friendship, responsibility, generosity, self-confidence, empathy, universality - in their mother tongue, that's where Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry's messages come into their own.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Of all these translations, which projects have impressed you the most?\n<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Three projects have particularly impressed me. The first was in Bhutan, where we obtained a royal edict from the Queen authorising the distribution of 5,000 copies of\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0translated into Dzongkha in all the kingdom's schools. This authorisation appears at the beginning of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>of each book, making it a highly symbolic edition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The example of Mapuche in Chile was also a highlight. Under the Pinochet dictatorship, the language had been banned; the culture and language still existed, but they were hardly ever taught, and there were no newspapers or books. After the transition to democracy, the state tried to revitalise the language. The publication of the\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0in Mapuche has aroused unexpected enthusiasm, and I've had the satisfaction of making a modest contribution to this cultural renaissance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Finally, in the south of Thailand, we translated the book into Yawi, a language close to Malay and written in Arabic characters. I was invited by the provincial governor to hold an exhibition and distribute the books. Here too, this work was part of an effort to preserve a regional linguistic identity.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

What made you decide to turn your collection into a real museum: the Museum of the Little Prince and his world in Solothurn?<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

I've always had in mind the idea of making this heritage accessible to everyone, and therefore of creating a museum. For years, I was looking for a place, but never found the ideal location. Then, five years ago, I moved to Solothurn and everything fell into place. The Palais Besenval, a 1706 building in the heart of the city, then owned by Cr\u00e9dit Suisse, was almost completely empty. When Cr\u00e9dit Suisse decided to sell it, the canton exercised its right of pre-emption, without really knowing what to do with it. So I put forward my proposal for a museum of the Little Prince and his world, which was accepted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

First we discover Saint-Exup\u00e9ry, the pilot, the writer, the man, and his relationship with his wife Consuelo. On display are love letters, Consuelo's engraved wedding ring and Saint-Exup\u00e9ry's officer's uniform with its decorations. There are also some real treasures: books dedicated to his pilot friend Henri Guillaumet, his migrant card when he arrived in the United States and his notebook from the Coll\u00e8ge de Fribourg where he spent part of his childhood. The rest of the museum is devoted to\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince\u00a0<\/span><\/i>and its values. There are films, documents and interactive features to help you discover the languages and scripts of the world, as well as the key messages that the author has conveyed through his work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

One of the most important rooms is the treasure room, which contains the original contract signed in New York between Saint-Exup\u00e9ry and his publishing house for the publication of the\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>. There is also a library with nearly 10,000 books from my collection. There's also a hologram of Saint-Exup\u00e9ry in his office at Bevin House on Long Island, the birthplace of The Little Prince.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

On the second floor, two rooms complete the tour. The first is devoted to sustainability, a space dedicated to my childhood friend Bertrand Piccard, who is the museum's patron. It is organised around four themes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>screens representing four different timeframes, each associated with an awareness-raising message.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Opposite him, Bertrand conveys his key message: we all have to act, even on a small scale, but we have to do it now. There's also a huge model of Solar Impulse and a small statuette of the\u00a0<\/span>Little Prince<\/span><\/i>, who was present in the cockpit of the plane throughout his round-the-world trip.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In the last room we show a film that achieves the museum's third objective: to create emotion. It's a powerful film that tells the story of\u00a0<\/span>The Little Prince<\/span><\/i>\u00a0with great sensitivity to once again embody the messages of the book, through images and music.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
